She attended Mexico High School and Douglas High School in Douglas, Arizona and graduated from Merced High School while living with her Brother, Bud during WWII. She attended Maryville High School in Maryville TN and Syracuse University Night School. In 1946 she attended Bill Hixson school of Floral Design in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1956 she married William "Hoppe" Smith. In 1957 the established and operated the Mexico Flower Shoppe for over 34 years before retiring in 1988 and moving to Pinellas Park, Florida. "Pozy" as her friends new her was a big Syracuse Chiefs fan. She would buy a block of tickets for a game and give them away to the residents of Mexico. She could always be seen with her husband at the games sitting behind third base.
Her husband William "Hoppe" Smith died in 1997. She is also predeceased by siblings, Forrest "Bud" Shoup, Bill Shoup ; Daughter Tomme Helen Godfrey and Grandson James Davis.
Surviving are her two Sons, William "Bucky" (Nancy) Smith of Mexico, Mike (Dawn) Smith of Florida; Grandchildren Meredith (Jamie) Comstock, Dr. Michael (Michelle) Smith, Sara Bateman, Zach Smith, Jessica (Ben) Tecler, Travis Davis; eleven great-grandchildren; one Sister, Edith Marsden of Mexico, NY and Robert Shoup of West Virginia.
Funeral Services will be 11 AM Thursday September 22, 2016 from the Harter Funeral Home 9 Washington Avenue Mexico, NY. Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
