After graduating high school she attended Plattsburg State University and graduated in 1950. She became a 3rd grade teacher for the Parish Elementary school until she retired in 1983.
She has always been an active member of the community, being involved in the Parish Historical Society, The Parish Library, the Parish Methodist Church and many other organizations.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, her family and a good laugh.
In 1949, she was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Chesley L. Sayer Jr., a union that lasted until his death in 2014.
She was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Chesley and her beloved brother, Donald W. Harter.
Surviving are her three daughters: Christy (Ray) Woodworth, Branchport, NY, Connie (Frank) Parkola of New Hartford, NY and Valerie (Tom) Campbell of Mexico, NY; seven grandchildren: Eric Hammer, Meghan Hammer, Kara Patterson, Brian Shovlin, Tyler
Calling hours will be Wednesday 4 to 7 with a service following at 7 p.m. at the Harter Funeral Home, 2983 W. Main Street, Parish NY. Burial will be in the Pleasant Lawn Cemetery on Monday,September 11 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to the Parish Public Library or the 1st Methodist Church of Parish.
The family wishes to thank her caregiver, Marlene Huveldt, for her dedication and care of our mom. We couldn't have done it without you Marty and we love you for it. The family would also like to thank her friends and family for the calls and the visits and Oswego County Hospice. We appreciate you all.
